An ensemble of Inuit musicians showcase a vibrant revitalization of ancient Inuit drum songs at the International Folk Alliance in Montreal, February 14th. The Folk Alliance is an opportunity for the musicians to secure performing work at world and folk music festivals nationally and internationally. Arctic Song includes Inuit musicians from across Canada's Arctic who have studied pisiit (Inuit drum songs) as well as contemporary choreography at the Qaggiq School of Performing Art. The ensemble collaborated on a contemporary performance of the ancient music and now Arctic Song (Pisiit Nunangat) will tour across Canada and Nunavut communities in March, providing not only entertainment but teaching children and youth the music that was once at risk of being lost.
